Temperature Range of Femtosecond Fiber Bragg Grating Temperature Sensor - Temperature Range: High Temperature Resistance up to 600°C, Low Temperature Resistance down to -200°C - FBG Thermometer
This article introduces the operating temperature range of the OFSCN® 500°C Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Bragg Grating Temperature Sensor (FBG Thermometer), including its maximum high-temperature and low-temperature resistance values. It also discusses the determination method and principles of the operating temperature range of fiber Bragg grating temperature sensors, including the stainless steel material and femtosecond fiber bragg grating used.
The operating temperature range of fiber bragg grating sensors is mainly determined by the fiber bragg grating and the sensor's packaging material. Therefore, analysis should be conducted from these two aspects.
1. Working Temperature Range of the Packaging Material for OFSCN® 500°C Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Bragg Grating Temperature Sensor (FBG Thermometer)
The OFSCN® 500°C Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Bragg Grating Temperature Sensor (FBG Thermometer) by DCYS adopts a unique patented packaging technology using seamless stainless steel tubes. The structure is minimalist, without adhesives or other auxiliary materials, consisting only of fiber bragg gratings (FBG) and stainless steel seamless tubes. Therefore, the determination of its operating range only requires analysis of the fiber bragg grating (FBG) and stainless steel materials.

For the OFSCN® 500°C Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Bragg Grating Temperature Sensor (FBG Thermometer), the working temperature range in the low-temperature region at the measurement point is -200°C, and in the high-temperature region, it has a long-term working temperature range of +350°C and a short-term working temperature range of +550°C. In practical measurements, customers have achieved temperatures of up to +600°C within shorter periods.
2. Working Temperature Range of Femtosecond FBG for OFSCN® 500-degree Celsius Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Femtosecond FBG Temperature Sensor (FBG Thermometer)
This model of the product uses doped polyimide-coated fiber, and the long-term working temperature of the polyimide fiber is generally around +500°C, with a short-term working temperature range of up to +600°C.
The OFSCN® 500°C Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Bragg Grating Temperature Sensor (FBG Thermometer) internally encapsulates femtosecond laser-written fiber bragg gratings (Femtosecond FBG). Due to the use of doped polyimide fiber, the FBG will degrade above 600°C. In this configuration, the stainless steel's temperature resistance is not the limiting factor; it is the degradation temperature characteristic of the femtosecond laser-written fiber bragg grating (Femtosecond FBG) that becomes the limitation.

Based on final testing, the OFSCN® 500°C Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Bragg Grating Temperature Sensor (FBG Thermometer) has a low-temperature working temperature range of -200°C, a long-term high-temperature working temperature range of +500°C, and a short-term high-temperature working temperature range of +600°C. It can be repeatedly used at temperatures up to +600°C (continuous usage in a +500°C environment). It should be further clarified that the high-temperature range is based on actual measurements, while the low-temperature range is theoretical.
