Introduction to OFSCN® Capillary Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors (FBG Sensors)
This article provides a physical comparison between traditional tube-packaged fiber bragg grating sensors and OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating sensors produced by DCYS. It also presents physical images of OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating temperature sensor (FBG thermometer), fiber Bragg grating stress sensor (FBG stress gauge), and fiber Bragg grating strain sensor (FBG strain gauge), and highlights the advantages and features of OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating sensors.
In the previous article, "Inherent Drawbacks of Fiber Bragg Gratings, Packaging Challenges of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors, and Temperature Compensation Principles for Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors", we presented the packaging solutions developed by DCYS to address the inherent drawbacks and technical challenges of fiber Bragg grating sensors.
We have also provided product information on our official website at DCYS. We believe that OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating sensors, featuring updated materials and structures, have distinctive characteristics. If widely promoted in the industry, they may contribute to further advancements in FBG measurement.
So, what are the innovations of OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating sensors? What are the unique features of their products compared to traditional tube-packaged FBG sensors?
Ⅰ. Materials and Physical Images of Traditional Tube-Packaged FBG Sensors
First, let's refer to the image:
Figure 1 |
The upper part of Figure 1 shows a commonly used tube-packaged FBG sensor available in the market. This FBG sensor is composed of various materials, including traditional armored fiber cables at both ends (typically including traditional PVC loose tubes, Kevlar fibers, helical steel tubes for wrapping, wire reinforcements, polyethylene sheathing, etc.), a metal casing in the middle (typically containing nested small metal casings, thermal paste, various types of epoxy resin adhesive, etc.), and connection kits on both sides (typically including heat-shrinkable tubing, various types of epoxy resin adhesive). Of course, there is also the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) inside the packaging structure and the fiber connector that needs to be handled separately. The common sizes are 6mm or 10mm, and the fiber grating sensing unit can only be located at the position of the steel tube.
Ⅱ. Materials and Physical Images of DCYS's New Full Metal Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors
The lower part of Figure 1 shows two different-sized OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating sensors, which are also tube-packaged FBG sensors. This type of fiber Bragg grating sensor consists of three parts, including fiber connectors, stainless steel seamless tubes, and fiber Bragg gratings inside the packaging structure. The common sizes are 0.9mm and 0.6mm, and the fiber grating sensing unit can be located anywhere on the steel tube. Due to pre-processed fiber connectors, they support field plug-and-play. The finished product images of this series are shown in Figures 2, 3, and 4, corresponding to OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating temperature sensor, OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating stress sensor, and OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating strain sensor.

Ⅲ. Advantages and Features of DCYS's Patented Full Metal Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors
OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating sensors adopt updated materials and structures, resulting in high sensitivity, fast heat conduction, excellent accuracy, compact size, light weight, high tensile and compressive strength, high temperature resistance, water and moisture resistance, non-combustibility, and corrosion resistance.
The listed product features are not arbitrary but have been carefully verified. Starting from the next article, we will formally introduce our first product, the OFSCN® capillary seamless steel tube fiber Bragg grating temperature sensor. Stay tuned.
